About Health Literacy
The goal of Brazos AHEC Health Literacy is to foster healthy behavior development in individuals,
groups, and communities throughout Central Texas. Brazos AHEC works with community representatives to
structure activities that will provide useful health and dental education that is beneficial for the immediate
community. This information is designed to be used with both adults and children.

Activities

The DWEyes program presents simulated activities demonstrating
the dangerous effects of drinking and driving.
The Tooth Fairy program teaches 4-6 year old children the importance
of dental hygiene, brushing, and nutrition for teeth when the tooth fairy
visits the classroom.
Basic Life Support and Healthcare Provider CPR Training
This hands-on class is full of practice scenarios where participants will learn how to:
recognize an emergency
access EMS
perform CPR for adults, infants, and children
perform The Heimlich Maneuver
Geriatric Sensitivity Education
The Geriatric Sensitivity program is designed to improve attitudes toward the
elderly through hands-on simulation activities.
The Senior Fitness program teaches individuals ages 60+ how exercise and fitness can
improve their health and prevent diseases related to physical inactivity.
The Quit and Stay Quit program will assist individuals in choosing a method to quit,
developing a plan to quit, and recognizing the benefits of quitting smoking.
Teen Pregnancy Prevention Education
The Baby Think It Over program uses life-like baby simulators in a
school-based program to teach responsibilities and realities of parenting.
The STOMP program emphasizes healthy decisions, effects of tobacco use,
handling peer pressure, and legal consequences of underage use.
