Health Professions Students

Community-Based Education
The goal of Brazos AHEC Community-Based Education is to establish and maintain community-based training for health professions students with an emphasis on primary care and underserved populations. Community-based educational opportunities are developed for students in medical, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, and other allied health programs. Health professions students are placed within an eighteen-county service region in Central Texas. Each placement provides many opportunities for students to develop their skills and knowledge under the direction of practicing community health professionals. Health professions students represent such disciplines as nursing, dentistry, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, ob/gyn, surgery, psychiatry, and family medicine.

Brazos AHEC offers a fully-donated housing program, established in 1998 to provide health professions students with temporary housing while in community rotation. The program provides the health professions student with a positive community experience to encourage students to relocate and practice in our local communities.
