The APC program has been developed within the family of the AmeriCorps programs to respond to currently unmet health care needs in chronically underserved areas.

East Texas Geriatric Education Center

The East Texas Geriatric Education Center (ETGEC) was established in 2003 by a grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration, an agency of the United States Department of Health and Human Services. As part of the Sealy Center on Aging, the mission of the ETGEC is to provide educational opportunities and continuing education in geriatrics to clinical health professionals and faculty who teach in health professions programs, and to students in health professions in East Texas. Through partnerships with the East Texas Area Health Education Centers and affiliation institutions throughout East Texas, the ETGEC attempts to enhance the level and availability of geriatric education and training with the overall goal of providing a positive impact on the health of older adults through out East Texas.
